Kids Spread Love and Skills at KEPS Valentine’s Day Market
All around the world, adults scoff at the idea of Valentine’s Day, while some secretly hope that they will get a surprise floral delivery or mail sometime during the day. At King Edward VII Preparatory School, the Grade 5 learners have elevated this day of love to a new level. Every year, they host our always successful Valentine’s Day Market.
The skills that the boys learn, from advertising their stalls, how to work in a team, working towards a common goal through competition, how to listen to ideas and not force their own onto the boys in their groups as well as handling money and entrepreneurial skills and thinking will stand them in good stead over the next few years.
The goal of hosting this market is clear – have as much fun as you can, and make as much money as possible! This is another Community Outreach and Fundraising project. Because of the generosity of our boys and parents, we are always able to raise a good amount that allows us to contribute to many different initiatives. These beneficiaries are usually: KEPS Cares, Children of Fire, Jumping Kids who make prosthetic limbs for children who need them, a home for abandoned babies, and Gideon’s Animal Outreach Programme. A donation has also gone to Gift of the Givers, who will use our money where it is needed most. We have also recently added Yeoville Boy’s Primary School to our list.
We are growing fine young men who have a social consciousness and are determined to give back to their communities. A very big thank you goes to our families for their continued support. The boys LOVED working with their parents, and all our little (and big) shoppers had a blast!
