Math24 Competition hosted by Pick n Pay School Club in collaboration with Peregrine Capital

Our Grade 5 and 6 learners participated in the exciting Math24 competition, an initiative introduced by the Pick n Pay School Club in collaboration with Peregrine Capital. The competition aims to make mathematics engaging and enjoyable while sharpening learners’ mental maths skills through the fast-paced and strategic Math24 card game. Under the guidance of Mrs Hajee and Mr Coertze, learners participated enthusiastically in an intense internal round held at our school, showcasing their problem-solving speed, logical thinking, and numerical fluency.

After a series of closely contested rounds, Ibrahim Fadal and Mphe Gwala emerged as the top competitors and went on to represent our school at the Johannesburg Central Division semi-finals. Competing against talented learners from across the district, both boys demonstrated remarkable skill and composure. We are incredibly proud to share that Ibrahim placed third, while Mphe achieved first place, a remarkable accomplishment that highlights their dedication and passion for mathematics.

As recognition for their outstanding performance, both Ibrahim and Mphe were awarded a R5000 Peregrine Capital investment and a R500 Pick n Pay voucher, while the school received a R5000 cash prize. Their success not only celebrates individual excellence but also reflects our school’s strong commitment to nurturing mathematical thinking and academic confidence.

We are thrilled that both boys proceeded to the final round of the Math24 competition on 31 October 2025, where they competed for the title of 24SumMore Champion. Ibrahim and Mphe represented our school in a nail-biting finale of 24 learners, hosted by Peregrine Capital. Mphe made it to the final round of 6. This was a wonderful competition, and we look forward to being a part of this initiative next year. Well done boys – may you continue to make our school proud!
