On Saturday 10 August, the Old Eds Road Race — part of the Vitality Run Series and a beloved Johannesburg tradition for over 40 years — brought together around 6,000 runners, walkers, and cheerleaders for a day filled with energy and camaraderie. Participants took on either the 5km fun run, the 10km, or the 21.1km race, with KEPS families and staff turning out in full force both on the road and behind the scenes.
The race is renowned for its scenic routes through the green suburbs of Houghton, Melrose, and Birdhaven and is one of the first major road races following the Comrades Marathon, making it a significant event on the local running calendar.
This year’s event was particularly meaningful, with the 5km race run in honour of Matthew Ernstzen — a heartfelt celebration of strength, spirit, and community. It was inspiring to see so many people, especially our boys, show up and show out in support of such an important cause.
We look forward to lacing up again for next year’s race!
